I Kept My Secret

Due to weather or travel problems, many of the people who planned on sharing their testimony at the March for Life in Washington DC in January 2016 were unable to attend.  The testimony below is what they had planned on sharing at the event.

I was about to start my final year of college.  My boyfriend said he would agree with whatever decision "I" made.  We never spoke about "what if…"

At six weeks, on August 4th, 1983, I had my abortion.  I didn’t feel I could disappoint my parents - after all, it was “legal”, right?  Unfortunately, I listened to the media who said "IT is just a blob of cells".  I recall the noise from the suction machine, the jar filling up with the bloody remains of my child, and the nurse telling me that “25% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage” to make me feel better I assume.  I kept my secret from everyone.

In 1993, my husband and I were thrilled that I was pregnant.  Our sonogram at six weeks was amazing!  Did you know the heart beat starts at three weeks?  There was life within me!  I didn’t know this with my first pregnancy.

Two years later, we were pregnant again.  I miscarried at six weeks.  What a difference, "Tatiana" knew she was loved and wanted ...  unfortunately, "Maria" did not.

Everyone will say that slavery was wrong.  But how is it different, I ask?  A slave owner had control over his slave, and a mother has control over her unborn child.  Our Declaration of Independence guarantees ALL citizens life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness ... and in that order!

I am a woman who deeply regrets her abortion and received healing through Rachel's Vineyard.  It is my sincere desire that others will choose life.  As the bumper stickers say:  "The right to 'choose' is a legal right, but a moral wrong" and "Life begins with conception.  Abortion begins with deception."
