New Normal

I had an abortion because
Well meaning loved ones encouraged it or offered no alternatives
I didn’t think I could return to College
I was terrified of being a single parent
The abortion procedure was so painful that I blacked out. My memory returned three days later as I opened a letter from the clinic stating “all the tissue had successfully been removed.” I know now that tissue included the fully formed hands and feet and the once beating heart of my first child – and how I wish I had fought for them.
After my memory returned, I was relieved to be out of my perceived trap, and I foolishly believed life would go back to normal. Instead, I had a new normal. In fact, for 17 years, I suffered from nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety attacks, eating disorders, angry outbursts. I couldn’t trust anyone, including my husband, and I couldn’t trust my parenting decisions – after all, look how I’d done with my first. My marriage was falling apart, and I was on the fast track to becoming a single parent of four.
I found relief through a Forgiven and Set Free Bible study. I learned that even I could approach the throne…. That I would not be turned away…. That God had a beautiful plan for me.
No longer shackled by shame – I’ve been sharing my story ever since.
A few years back, myself and others had the privilege of helping a young woman choose life for her child. She was homeless, mentally ill, and being pressured by a government agency to get an abortion against her wishes.
The baby was born healthy, was adopted at birth, and is being raised on a farm with five siblings and around 500 dairy cows.
A year and a half ago I published a book titled LOVE WILL. It’s set 12 years in the future. A young man gets injured while rescuing people. His recovery time sets the stage to tell the back story of his amazing birth mom - a homeless woman being sheltered from a government agency coercing her to get an abortion against her wishes. Of course it’s entirely fiction because we all know those kinds of things wouldn’t ever happen right?
Sharing our stories give others hope that they too can find healing and peace. Seven years ago I walked 683 miles around the state of Oregon, raising funds for PRC’s and raising awareness about the importance of after abortion healing.
This last fall I traveled with the 40 days for Life united tour representing SNM in 7 states. I love to speak at rallies, fundraisers, conventions, churches, and women’s retreats. Check out my website at Cindybrunk.com or better yet visit my table here at the info faire.
Thanks for listening and God Bless you all.
