Women and men of Silent No More Awareness will conclude March for Life with testimonies of abortion regret

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Most couples who go through an abortion together end up going their separate ways to deal with their pain.

But two couples who chose abortion as teenagers then later married and found healing together will tell their stories during the Silent No More gathering at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 18.

After choosing abortion at the age of 27, a young woman was never able to get pregnant again but later adopted a little girl who survived an abortion procedure and horrific conditions in her birth home. Both mother and daughter are proudly pro-life and their story also will be told at the March for Life gathering.

The women and men of Silent No More have taken part in every March for Life since 2003, several months after the campaign was founded by Anglicans for Life President Georgette Forney and Priests for Life Executive Director Janet Morana.

The testimonies, given in front of the Supreme Court building immediately following the March, provide a  powerful conclusion to the event while underscoring that abortion not only kills children, but wounds their mothers and fathers, extended families and society as well.

“It’s hard to put into words how important those testimonies are, and what that actually means to the movement,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of the March for Life. “In particular, people who have made that choice, and have had a profound change of heart, are perhaps the single group that is most trusted to tell their stories. We’re just so grateful for Silent No More and for the men and women who are willing to share those testimonies.”

Forty-nine women and men from Oregon to Texas and Louisiana to Canada have signed up to tell the stories of why they chose abortion, how it impacted their lives and how they found healing.

“I appreciate the courage of these women and men,” Mrs. Forney said. “I have been talking about my own abortion experience for decades and while it never gets easier, there is healing to be found in speaking about it out loud. We want other moms and dads who may be suffering in silence to know that forgiveness and redemption are within reach.”

Mrs. Morana said that what makes the testimonies so powerful is that “experience trumps rhetoric. The Shout Your Abortion movement is spreading the lie – even to children – that abortion is no big deal, no worse than a dentist appointment. The women and men of Silent No More have a very different story to tell.”
