The women and men of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign Canada will take part in the National March for Life in Ottawa on Thursday to talk about their abortion experiences and regret.
The pre-March rally on Parliament Hill will begin at 12:30 p.m. The March will begin at 1:30 p.m. and the Silent No More Awareness Campaign event will begin at 2:45 p.m. on the steps of Parliament Hill.
Angelina Steenstra, National Coordinator, said 16 people will give their testimonies, including what led to their decisions to have an abortion, how that decision impacted their lives and how they ultimately found healing.
Also, to highlight the Campaign’s Healing the Shockwaves of Abortion initiative, Allison Pollard will describe how she learned she had lost a brother to abortion and how that impacted her. She will march with a sign reading “I Mourn My Aborted Sibling,” while her mother, Anita Sonntag, regional coordinator for Saskatchewan, marches alongside her with an “I Regret My Abortion” sign.
Abortion has been legal in Canada since 1969. It is publicly funded and available through all nine months of pregnancy. Last year, the Canadian government approved the abortion pill and its use is increasing.
“Support for abortion is the politically correct position in Canada, but the pro-life movement here is strong and growing,” said Mrs. Steenstra. “The Silent No More Awareness Campaign has contributed to the dialogue in a unique and meaningful way.”
Georgette Forney and Janet Morana, co-founders of Silent No More Awareness Campaign, also will march with the Campaign.
The National March for Life is marking its 20th year in 2017, and the Silent No More Awareness Campaign has been part of the event since 2004.
