Jacquie’s Testimony
Over twenty years ago, I made a choice that I thought was my only option. I was young, felt scared, nervous and knew the father did not care. I spoke with him and he convinced me that abortion was the answer. He drove me to a clinic in Bethesda, Maryland, next to the Naval Hospital.
There they seemed to have all the answers to “discard” my newly discovered problem—a pregnancy, an unborn child—a gift from God—my child!
They made aborting seem painless, effortless, quick and an easy solution. No ultrasound was offered; I was too young to know to ask.
The procedure was performed with no pain medication or anesthesia. I could feel my child die the very moment she was murdered inside my body. When I left, he was gone.
From that moment and for the next twenty years I experienced the feelings of loss, grief, abandonment and fear every day of my life—half of my life— for I am 44 today.
I found peace, forgiveness and God’s truth through attending a Rachel’s Vineyard retreat this past November.
After surviving cancer, a 25-pound tumor in my uterus, and other various health issues related to my abortion choice.
It took twenty years of grieving, shame and humiliation, problem relationships, hours of prayer and meetings with many, many priests and counselors, to finally realize it was time for total healing and to give my daughter a name: Lily Gabriel.
